A quickie
Made these shallow dishes today, handled the big jugs and made another, threw some mugs. Went to band practice, off to bed now because it's late, goodnight all.
hey doug with your plates/dishes do you keep the bottom clean of slip? or wipe it off later..I dipped my plates right in and now have scuff/stuck marks where they rested on the bat...
Hi Ang I tend to pour the inside, then immediately dip the outside, holding the pot with fingers on the rim and thumbs on the footring. It means I get thinner areas of slip where my fingers touch the pot, but I like that effect - it's all part of the whole 'marks of making' thing. I then brush slip into the footring later when the pot's dry. I'll be slipping loads of them this week so I'll try and get somebody to take a photo. I keep meaning to get your pot in the post, it's here, the box in which to send it is here, my organizational skills aren't here!
get out! there's a doug fitch pot coming here, thats too cool,but I'll gladly receive it whenever you have time..yeh I realised last week I really didn't think through the whole slip on the base thing, I'm just going to burnish the marks now since our weather systems have swapped and I can't get a thing to dry now, I saw your thrown footrings too I haven't done that in a while so i'll do that next time..thank you
