Sometimes the necks are thrown on and sometimes they're not. I always used to struggle when it came to decorating, as to where to start the deco and as to whether it should be on the neck. I had a good look at some old pots and realised that the ribbing in the neck was decoration enough. I don't use a tool, just fingers. It's always the last bit of the pot that I work on, the neck and the rim - I'll try and get a bit of video together if I can.
